Overview

• The Sun is one of 100 Billion stars in our galaxy - The Milky Way
• Everything in our Solar System revolves around the Sun
• It is the largest object in the Solar System and comprises of 99.8% of its mass
• The Sun's emits Solar Radiation provides Heat and Energy for us here on Earth

Size And Distances

• The Sun is roughly 93 million miles or 150 milion kilometers to Earth
• It would take over 1.3 million Earths to fill the Sun
• The Sun orbits the Milky Way Centre from 25000 light years away
• Our whole Solar System travels around the Milky Way at 448000 mph or 720000 kph

Composition

• The Sun is mainly composed of Hydrogen (70.6%) and Helium (27.4%)
• It is all held together by Gravity which causes great pressure and high temperatures at its core
• The core is where Hydrogen Atoms fuse to make Helium
• This process causes the sun to emit the heat and light that it radiates out into Space

Temperature

• At the core, the temperature is roughly 15 million degrees celsius
• The surface is nowhere near the heat of the core at just 5500 degrees celsius
• The temperature of the surface, however, is still hot enough to melt and boil diamonds and graphite
